Andrew Wiggins Must be Traded ASAP vs. Benched

The time has come to move on from
Andrew Wiggins. Enough is enough
Andrew Wiggins days are numbered receiving a paycheck for the privilege of playing professional basketball for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wiggins has by all measurable standards including the eye test, shown absolutely no evidence of improvement from last year. All of the hyped up "hard work" he's supposedly put into his game (as parrotted by  the Minnesota sportswriters) over the summer should have prepared him for the preseason; yet, he is alarmingly the exact same player and person as last year, just like the FIVE years prior. We've heard from the mainstream Minnesota sports media ad nauseum that Wiggins has worked harder on his game this summer than previous summers; and yet he's proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it was all fake news. The Timberwolves fanbase have been sold a bottle of snake oil with a big picture of Andrew Wiggins smile on it. True Wolves fans should be FURIOUS, for they've been deceived!!!

The best thing for Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas to do for the betterment of the organization is to trade Andrew Wiggins for anything at this point; and make the trade happen quickly and silently.

As you've probably figured out already, the Timberwolves fanbase has FINALLY turned against Andrew Wiggins. The only folks that ignore facts and speak out in defense of their Golden Cow Wiggins are those zombies who keep moaning about the usual false narratives, like:

💩 Andrew Wiggins is sooo talented!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins is sooo athletic!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins has sooo much potential!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins is still young so we can't give up on him!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins will have a breakout season because NBA players don't hit their stride untill year six!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins confidence is gone because of Jimmy Butler!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins regression is Coach Thibodeau's fault!!!

💩 Andrew Wiggins isn't a bad basketball player; he just hasn't lived up to the LeBron-like standards we all expected of him!!!

And my favorite low IQ response is:
💩 You're an Andrew Wiggins HATER!!!

I predict a quick and silent trade with Andrew Wiggins is inevitable. It is ideal that a Wiggins trade happens prior to the first game of the season. Otherwise, the other two options are to (1) bench Wiggins with severely reduced minutes; or (2) actually keep playing Wiggins with hopes and prayers that he'll actually improve enough to raise his current trade value. Continuing to play Wiggins at this point comes with the consequence of slapping his teammates in the face who have committed themselves to this season. Nope!! Clearly, faith in Andrew Wiggins is belief absent of proof. Trade Andrew Wiggins ASAP for the betterment of the Timberwolves organization!!

The Andrew Wiggins trade scenerio prior to the regular season (within a few days) strategically makes the most sense for the two reasons below. Or, less ideally he'll get traded after the first 10 games or legitimately as soon as possible.

(1) Andrew Wiggins will become the next Jimmy Butler if he's benched and/or his minutes are reduced.

Benching and/or reducing Andrew Wiggins minutes will CERTAINLY cause team destroying blowback from Wiggins reminiscent to the Butler ordeal from last year, which the Timberwolves organization would do practically anything to prevent from repeating. Here's why that would happen:

Remember when it was widely reported back in season 2017-2018 that Andrew Wiggins became a lockerroom cancer? Wiggins threw a child-like tantrum and he made it public that he was unhappy and he was being wronged by his role as third option behind Karl Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler? That didn't go over very well by his teammates. What was best for the team didn't agree with poor entitlement-filled Andrew Wiggins. Boo hoo. Consequently, Wiggins chose to NOT man-up, NOT accept his role on the team, and NOT give 100% effort night in and night out. Andrew Wiggins made the decision to pout and chronically give up during games. This was his unprofessional reaction even though he was not benched nor did he receive a reduction in minutes; instead, he was still starting every game playing over 30-35 minutes per game; and yet he had the audacity to blow a gasket and make it public that he didn't want to be a third option. Just imagine how he'll act out when he's benched and/or his minutes are reduced!!! The Timberwolves front office will not want to showcase a player they wish to trade ASAP under those circumstances.

It makes perfect sense that Andrew Wiggins will most certainly take a page out of Butler's "how to leave a team" playbook if he's forced to accept responsibility and deal with the consequences of his shortcomings. Think of it...  Andrew Wiggins has an extremely over-inflated sense of self-importance and self-worth. In addition to pouting like a 10 year old and going public about his feelings on being a third option, Andrew Wiggins recently stated in an interview that he blames OTHERS for his shortcomings. How pathetic is that? Andrew Wiggins is incapable of taking responsibility for his own decisions! And if that's not bad enough, he recently stated that there are not 100 players on planet Earth better than him after not making the requirements for ESPNs Top 100 NBA Players list.

Andrew Wiggins not only thinks very highly of himself; he's an entitlement-filled child who cannot take responsibility for his own shortcomings. How do you think Wiggins will react after he's rightfully benched and/or his minutes are reduced for the betterment of the Timberwolves?? The Timberwolves organization does not want a repeat cancerous performance from a team member like that of one year ago; therefore, trading Wiggins before he's benched seems like a certainty.

(2) Benching Andrew Wiggins will mean first time Head Coach Ryan Saunders will have to bench a very close friend.

President of Basketball Operations Rosas would be wise to bear the sole responsibility of dealing with Andrew Wiggins instead of leaving that to first time Head Coach Ryan Saunders, who incidentally is best friends with Wiggins. An Andrew Wiggins backlash against his good friend and Head Coach for benching him and/or reducing his minutes would be potentially flammable for Saunders and the team alike. Just think about it. Take into account the inflated level of self importance which oozes from Wiggins pores. Wiggins will retaliate with the exact sort of professional as well as personal distractions that are too difficult for a first time NBA Head Coach to manage. It would also be a team obliterating event that dwarfs anything Butler did 12 months earlier. In short, when Wiggins acts out it will unravel his friendship with his current buddy Ryan Saunders as well as his professional relationship with his current Head Coach Ryan Saunders. The Timberwolves organization does not wish to deal with the nightmare of another Butler-like scenario a second season in a row. Rosas will have to trade Wiggins ASAP in order to shield his rookie Head Coach from unbearable distractions so he can soley focus on doing his best at coaching the team.

Since Andrew Wiggins clearly hasn't improved from last season, and since the Minnesota Timberwolves have claimed that they've adopted a new winning culture, getting rid of Andrew Wiggins vs. continuing this fool's errand of rehabilitating him, would be the smartest next step in a positive direction for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

  1. The only problem with your take is that who wants Andrew Wiggins? If you see the downside to this kid, what GM doesn't see the same thing? So now, to unload Wiggins, what else are you willing to give up or take in return? Would you give up a couple #1's to unload this guy? I wouldn't, because with the NBA going back to allowing HS kids, you could be giving up the very player that could pair with KAT to salvage this franchise. Would you take back Chris Paul? He is owed more money than Wiggins and is less likely to contribute to a team like the Wolves, rather Butlering his way into a bad trade out of here. And you still may have to give up a draft pick and players to do that deal.

I also think that you need to rethink if Wiggins is going to pull a Butler himself. He is just as untradeable now as a quiet bust then he would if he pouted and demanded a trade. So the only thing he can do is shut up and hope that his agent can work a deal that doesn't cost the Wolves and arm and a leg. This is why, I believe the best thing for his "pal" Ryan Saunders to do, is to make him earn his minutes. If he shoots high percentage shots and works on rebounding he stays in the game. If not, he rides the pine and let's Okogie, Layman, or Culver get more time. If he really wants a new start, out of Minnesota, he needs to show that he can grow as a player. Otherwise, the Wolves move on with other players that want to play hard and follow the game plan and in two years, you take the remaining $60 mill and you spread it over five and move on. The best time to have gotten rid of Wiggins is when they traded for Butler. Butler, KAT, Zach LaVine and Markkenen would have been a nice team to roll with.

The other thing is that Glen Taylor has to realize HE made a mistake in signing Wiggins, instead of letting him play the restricted FA game and see how the rest of the league viewed this kid. The only guy that is worth max money is the guy that gets you in the playoffs every year. We don't have that guy on this team.

  2. Good points!
Wiggins (and maybe paired with Teague) with picks plus Diop could entice someone to bite. The return would have to be for an expiring contract or a legitimate asset(s). KAT needs help at the 5 since he'll be splattered all over the perimeter. KAT can't guard other 5s and should be playing the 4 a healthy percentage of games. Wiggins + pick(s) + Deing for Adams & Gallinari, or something similar. OKC loves picks as much as Boston does. Move RoCo to SG, Gallinari at SF, KAT rotates between 4 & 5, and Adams (the NBAs #1 Offensive rebounder) cleans up missed shots and sets monster picks and relieves KAT at 5 and runs with the second unit. Culver starts at 1. Now that's a good lineup and a relavant team in the West!!

Benching Wiggins and/or reducing his minutes is dangerous. He's not going to sit quietly nor will that somehow motivate him to play any better. Using a carrot hasn't worked and using a whip could backfired. Now, after stating that, Wiggins cannot be allowed to play either. The Wolves are in a Catch 22 scenerio.

Adding the necessary assets to a Wiggins trade seems like the only way to deal with the current situation. Picks are only future "maybes" at best. Use picks for NBA ready assets. KAT will request a (Anthony Davis-like) trade by the time those picks mature into assets. Wiggins MUST go.

Wiggins to Toronto for Lowery could work. Add Teague and receive Ibaka?? Wiggins could sell jerseys and tickets in his home country for a couple years before Toronto also gives up on him. Let them try to make money off of him while they attempt to rehabilitate him Hellen Keller-like. Then MN at least has usable assets PLUS the added benefit of Wiggins off of the roster.

Wiggins must go. That has to be priority #1 at this point. He's a legitimate net-negative contributor. Heck, I'd take Batum over Wiggins just to have a fresh face cashing a check, cough cough.

Wiggins, Teague, Deing, Diop, + as many picks as necessary to get Beal and Wall. Wall could play ball next year and Beal is the NBAs #1 SG. Culver plays point. Perhaps trade Wall once he shows he's NBA competent or ride him out which is better than having Wiggins in a Wolves jersey. Plus, picks for Beal are worth it. Beal, KAT and RoCo is a legitimate big three with a decent bench.

    I'm just spitballing...

Whatever happens MUST happen soon. The Timberwolves don't have a season to waste on Wiggins shrink using the Wolves organization as his R&D Dept.

    Good points!!

I enjoy civilized back-and-forth. Hopefully hear back from you soon!!

  3. I get that you want Adams, but he just isn't going to budge from OKC for Wiggins. Lowry and Ibaka for Teague and Wiggins? That seems farfetched. IF Toronto wanted to trade those two (and I don't think they do) they could get a lot more than Wiggins and Teague's expiring contract. After winning the Championship, Toronto doesn't need a hometown zero to sell jerseys. As for the Wall, Beal trade. I think that Wiggins, two #1's and Teague could go to Washington, if the Wiz are once again falling out of the playoff race. It would be a risk with Wall, but a talent like Beal would be a benefit to KAT for sure. Until Wiggins shows a pulse (tonight against the NETS, he was god awful plus minus and Flip Jr. played him far too much when it mattered,) but he did almost get 10 rebounds and last year that would take a week or two worth of game to get. Have some patience, and hope that Rosas can find a sucker GM to rid us of the Canadian Zed by next year.

  4. NB: Do you think that if Wiggins plays until December, like he has the last couple of games, he could be traded to a team like Washington for Wall? Ish Smith is a decent PG, costs a lot less and Wiggins would be the player with Beal, Rui, and Moritz or Bryant that would save them money to rebuild around Beal. They could add a player like Adams and be a force for the East next year. I agree that Wiggins and KAT are compatible (Why Thibs thought that Butler and Wiggins were compatible is another matter) A team of Wall, Culver, KAT and RoCo, Layman and Vonleh could be a good fit. Add a trade of Teague's expiring for a player like Julius Randle or Evan Fornier may be some decent moves

  5. I meant Wiggins and KAT are not compatible.
